NPS Staff and Families:
It has come to my attention that some folks did not get the Connect Ed this morning about the delay of school. I have also been informed that some of our students had a difficult walk to school this morning due to icy sidewalks. As such, I wanted to extend my sincerest apologies to anyone that was affected by either of these issues this morning.
Please know that your child’s safety and security are our top priority. Our facilities staff was working on the parking lots and walkways from 5:00 a.m. this morning to ensure that our students and busses could safely get into the schools. We are in constant contact with the Northbridge DPW on these days to ensure the sidewalks will be safe for our students walking to school and the roads are safe for our staff and families driving. We rely on the information provided to us about the town streets and sidewalks, to make judgment calls on school closings and delays. However, it seems that the fluctuating sleet, rain and temperature this morning made it difficult for accurate information to be relayed to our facilities department. So again, I apologize for any safety issue this may have caused you or your child.
I want to remind families that if there are days when you feel the weather conditions may hinder your child’s safe arrival at school, it is your right to keep them home, as long as you notify the school of their absence.
With regard to the Connect Ed issue that some people experienced this morning, we have gone into the system to see if there were any error messages or glitches that may have occurred, and we weren’t able to see any. The feedback data did show, however, that some of the contact information we have for families is incorrect or phone numbers are no longer active, and therefore the Connect Eds are undeliverable. There were also several hang-ups, opt-outs and no answers.
In order to ensure that we can keep you informed at all times and provide you with necessary school and district communications, I would respectfully request that if you did not receive the call this morning, please check with your child’s school to make sure they have your most recent and updated phone contact and email contact information.
In addition, I want to remind you that delays and closings are always posted to the following radio and TV stations by 5:30 a.m. or before:
WBZ radio and Channel 4
WCVB Channel 5
Channel 7 News
Fox 25 News
It is also the first thing you’ll see on the district webpage at www.nps.org. They are also posted to the district FB page (with the exception of this morning) at https://www.facebook.com/pg/northbridgepublicschools.
Once again, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by whatever glitch occurred for some folks this morning, and we hope you will help us to ensure that this does not happen in the future by providing the schools with your most updated information and accessing.
