dismissal

Dear Families,

As we begin our school year, we ask all families who have a child that will be picked up or walk home from school to please complete this form no later than Friday, 8/22/25. This helps us to have accurate information on who is authorized to pick-up your child and who will meet them from the walker line.

In addition, it is helpful to read through the additional information and watch the attached videos so you are aware of our traffic patterns.

ARRIVALS

If you are dropping your student off in the morning all family drop offs must enter at the main entrance closest to Arcade and Main streets. The other entrance is for staff, buses, and students with medical diagnoses.

Also remember, there are no left hand turns permitted into the main driveways if you are approaching the school from Arcade Street.  Again, this is for student safety for our many walkers.

No Left Hand Turns

No Car Entrances During Arrival and Dismissal

When you pull into our grounds, remember that the driveway is double lined for a two-way traffic flow. Do not try to cross the double line and pass people who are stopped in the line.  Please remain in the flow of traffic and follow the driveway around the school.

Please be vigilant in adhering to the 5 mph speed limit and watching for staff who may hold up a stop sign to let bus and preschool traffic exit/enter the parking lot or allow a student to cross.

Staff will be there to guide you along the way and instruct you where to stop.

Doors will open to students beginning at 8:15am. Please do not drop your student off prior to that time.

When your child(ren) are exiting the car, please have them get out on the sidewalk/passenger side for their safety. We don't want students out of cars on the side where other cars will be passing by. We are asking that family members please do not leave your car to walk your child(ren) to the door. That will slow down the process and impact everyone else in line. Please get your kisses and hugs in the car and we'll take it from there. If a child is crying or having some separation anxiety, our trained adjustment counselors and administration will be nearby to support them getting into the school.

DISMISSALS

The traffic pattern for dismissal runs very much  the same way.  If you or an identified adult will be picking up your student, you will need a dismissal “badge” from the main NES office.  Each of your child(ren) will be assigned a unique dismissal # as an identifier. The ‘badge’ will also include family and friends who have been identified as approved people to dismiss your child.

If the need arises to have someone pick up your child who is not listed on the badge, you must contact the child’s teacher and the front office (508-234-8161) BEFORE 2:00pm to let them know the name and relationship of the person who will be picking them up. Please let that person know that they will be asked to identify themselves and show a picture ID.

WALKERS

NES has 70 plus walkers. To help the students exit the building and campus in the most safe way possible, we have two walker lines. If you wish to have your child walk home, you should must complete the walker registration form.  Students should know which way they are walking home.

We have two walker lines…

  • Walker Line A- Towards Arcade Street:The second walker line comes out of the building and walks along the parent drop off line. A staff member will hold the traffic to safely allow students to cross the entrance to the school.

  • Walker Line B- Towards Lake Street: One walker line comes out of the building and walks towards the Lake Street entrance. A staff member and/or crossing guard will hold traffic at the four way stop to allow students to walk home safely.

Please do not walk to the front of the building to pick up your student at dismissal. There are a lot of kids going through our dismissal process, and the more people we have around the more confusing it becomes. Our walkers will meet designated family members at the entrance to the school.

Lastly, if your student is a walker, please discuss with them where you are going to meet them. If you can practice it before school starts that would be even better.

Families may pick-up their dismissal badge/# from the school on Monday, August 25th or Tuesday, August 26th from 2:00-4:00pm

We are always open to any questions you may have! Please feel free to call the main office at 508-234-8161.

Thank you,
