Getting Started

  • Turn on the Chromebook → Open the lid or press the power button.

  • Log in with the student’s account

  • Shut down properly → Click the clock (bottom-right) → Power → Shut Down.

Connecting to the Internet

  • Connect to Wi-Fi → Click the clock → Wi-Fi icon → Choose your home network → Enter password.

  • Check connection → Wi-Fi icon should be full (no “X”).

Everyday Use

  • Open Google Classroom → classroom.google.com.

  • Join a Google Meet → Open Google Calendar → Click event → Join.

  • Check Gmail → mail.google.com.

Accessibility & Special Education Supports

Chromebooks include built-in accessibility tools to support students with disabilities, learning differences, or special education needs.

🔊 For Students with Reading/Visual Needs

  • Turn on Text-to-Speech (Select-to-Speak)

    • Settings → Accessibility → Select-to-Speak → Turn On.

    • Highlight text → Press Search + S to have it read aloud.

  • Use Screen Reader (ChromeVox)

    • Settings → Accessibility → Enable ChromeVox.

    • Chromebook will read everything on screen.

  • Magnify the Screen

    • Settings → Accessibility → Enable Full-screen magnifier.

    • Shortcut: Ctrl + Search + M to toggle.

🎨 For Students with Focus/Attention Needs

  • Use High Contrast Mode

    • Settings → Accessibility → High Contrast Mode.

  • Highlight the Mouse Cursor

    • Settings → Accessibility → Cursor → Enable Large Cursor or Cursor Highlight.

  • Focus Mode (to limit distractions)

    • Use apps like StayFocused (if allowed) or practice single-tab use.

  • On-Screen Keyboard

    • Settings → Accessibility → Enable On-Screen Keyboard.

  • Dictation / Voice Typing

    • Settings → Accessibility → Dictation (type with your voice).

    • Shortcut: Search + D.

    • Reads text, highlights key ideas, and supports writing.

Common Fixes

  • Restart first if something isn’t working.

  • Reset Wi-Fi by disconnecting/reconnecting.

  • Update Chromebook: Settings → About ChromeOS → Check for updates.
